Description
KAZAK
Caucasus Late 19th century
The term Kazak indicates a large group of carpets knotted in the Western Caucasus especially from the mid-nineteenth century to the early decades of the twentieth century. The different types of carpets belonging to this category are made with excellent wool, and are easily recognizable by the close shaving of the fleece. Iconographically, the designs are predominantly geometric and stylized. This antique Kazak carpet features four large rhomboid figures with a hooked profile.
