Description
BESHIR
Origin Turkmenistan
Period Late 19th century
Beshir rugs are made by the Beshir tribe, a subdivision of the Ersari group of the Turkmen people, who inhabits the Amu Darya valley in Turkmenistan. Antique Beshir rugs typically feature bright colors, are finely knotted and usually made from wool. Unlike other Turkmen groups, the Beshir do not use guls (tribal emblems) as the basis of their designs.
This antique Beshir rug is consistent with other Turkmen rugs which are dominated by reds, deep blues, makes use of bright yellow and white accents.
