Description
TABRIZ HAJI JALILI
Early 20th century, North West Persia origin, wool fleece on cotton weave.
One of the most famous and widespread Persian motifs in manufacturing carpets, both urban, tribal or village, is the so-called herati, which perhaps in the Tabriz Haji Jalili reaches levels of true excellence. It is a pattern, a compositional scheme, generated by a small lozenge around which four curved sickle-shaped leaves rotate, which in some cases may look like little fish, hence the name mahi (fish, in fact) sometimes given by this design. In this large and bright specimen with an ivory-colored background, the herati motif is executed with particular finesse.
